As the clinical director and senior consultant psychotherapist at Working Minds, Alan has over 30 years’ experience working in the mental health sector.
Alan has held position as Clinical Lecturer at the University of Birmingham, teaching Masters’ Degree courses in psychological approaches to assessment and treatment of various problems. This includes research and publications in professional journals. (1998-2002). As well as an Honorary visiting fellowship at the University of Stafford, (2020).
Alan had presented at many national and international conferences in the World Congress in Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy (Japan 2005)
He holds accreditation with British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy (BABCP) and United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and is also an Affiliate Member of the Society of Occupational Medicine and Senior Associate to the Royal Society of Medicine.
Due to the length of time in practice Alan’s relaxed, yet professional manner ensures clients are at ease as soon as possible. He specialises in treating depression and anxiety and this can include obsessive compulsive disorder, generalised anxiety (stress and worry) , occupational anxiety (this can include liaising with employer if needed, business coaching), trauma responses and relationship difficulties.
In addition, Alan operates an integrated model with occupational health departments that liaises with occupational health clinicians if appropriate and provide reports (with clients’ permission).
As a senior psychological therapist to global and national businesses Alan also provides structured business coaching, that explores behaviours and emotions within the workplace that may be leading to emotional pressures.

Senior Lecturer

Paul has worked in Mental Health Care for over 30 years in both the public and private sectors.
He is a Honorary, senior Lecturer in Mental Health and an accredited cognitive behavioural psychotherapist. He has a specialist interest in emotional resilience and has contributed to the development of our innovative new training course in resilience. This evidence-based course is a joint venture between Staffordshire University and Working Minds UK and aims to equip attendees with the knowledge and skills to develop their own resilience as well as that of others in a range of organisational and professional settings.
Paul is also an accredited Eye Movement Desensitised and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist.

Dieter is a compassionate and dedicated mental health professional with over ten years of experience in clinical and therapeutic roles. With a background as an Assistant Psychologist, Clinical Co-ordinator, and voluntary overseas teacher, Dieter specialises in delivering psychological assessments, evidence-based interventions, and service development strategies.
In her current role, Dieter focuses on enhancing service delivery frameworks, designing client-centered care pathways, and supporting occupational health services, including police and fire departments.
Dieter's analytical approach helps organisations understand and improve service performance through data-driven insights and performance metrics. Her collaborative work with multidisciplinary teams ensures high-quality psychological care tailored to client needs.
Combining academic insight with practical expertise, Dieter is committed to creating sustainable and impactful mental health solutions and hopes to pursue a PhD in Organisational Psychology.

Michael is a health psychologist and senior psychotherapist renowned for his innovative approach to talking therapy, occupational health and psychology. Tahirah is deeply committed to empowering individuals with neurodiverse conditions, particularly ADHD and dyslexia. Stan is a highly specialised and passionate Cognitive Behaviour Therapist, with over 20-years’ experience in the mental health services.
His background involves starting as a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN), then developing into a senior CBT therapist for such companies as Jaguar Land Rover Ltd.
He is accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and specialises in depression, PTSD, specific phobia, OCD, all anxiety disorders including, health anxiety and social anxiety (SAD).

PGDip CBT, EDMR
Emma initially trained as a Mental Health Nurse and worked in inpatient and community settings. She then completed her PGD in Cognitive Behavioural therapy (CBT) and gained full Accreditation in 2014. Alongside working within the NHS until 2016. Further qualifications achieved include EMDR and Interpersonal Psychotherapy.
Emma started her own company - Mather Emotional Wellbeing LTD in 2013, building various contracts with public and private organisations.
At present date, she works as a Lecturer at Staffordshire University teaching on the CBT training and Long-Term Health Conditions, and enjoying consultant work with Working Minds UK, where her main interests involve trauma and Post Natal Depression and anxiety.
Emma is currently developing my skills in Compassionate Focused Therapy where she uses this therapy to care for her clients and own Emotional Wellbeing.

Steve is a highly experienced integrative therapist with several years experience, working with individuals (adults and young people) across a wide variety of sectors and organisations, including care and education, West Midlands Police, the security sector, rare diseases charities and NHS groups. Steve specialises in anger management and violent reduction as an alternative education to promote and develop Positive Behaviour Support for young people, schools and their families, also working with rare disease charity with bereavement and complex bereavement issues working with the needs of the patients, parents, siblings and young people to support mental health and emotional well being.

Tony was a fire fighter with the West Midland Fire Service for 17 years. It was through the fire service that he started counselling.
Government funded research showed that youngsters who were mentored by people in roles such as fire and police officers were less likely to get into trouble, as they grew older.
Tony volunteered to become one of these mentors and has now been counselling for over 20 years and a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.
He worked at West Leicestershire Mind for three years and saw a wide variety of clients presenting with a wide variety of problems, ranging from anxiety and depression to compulsive disorders.
He also worked at Myton Hospice in Warwick for two years, with clients who were suffering with grief or bereavement issues.
He has also specialised in addiction problems and runs a very busy and successful private practice.

Amanda is a fully qualified and highly experienced integrative therapist working with individuals across a wide variety of mental health issues including anxiety, depression, confidence, stress, relationships, trauma, abuse and grief.
A passionate advocate of positive mental health, Amanda offers an opportunity for self-discovery and exploration, allowing even the most sceptical of minds to channel their inner wellbeing. Amanda actively promotes positive change, offering sessions in refocusing the mind, breathing meditation and mindfulness.
Amanda has trained in Mental Health First Aid and teaches others, allowing for an understanding in cognitive processes and emotional resilience. Her work spans from individual and group therapy, to developing and delivering mental health initiatives for large organisations.

Louisa is an experienced therapist who works holistically and relationally with her clients, integrating humanistic, cognitive behavioural, psychodynamic, and mindfulness approaches. Through their work together, she helps her clients draw on their strengths and inner resources to facilitate increasing self-awareness, improving relationships, and making changes to ease suffering and promote well-being. She utilises psychoeducation to help clients understand their brains and bodies, normalising their psychological and physiological responses to stress, loss, and trauma. Louisa is knowledgeable and skilled in working with issues such as anxiety, depression, work-related stress, loss and bereavement, trauma, relationship issues, and providing post-incident support. She has completed Standard Accredited EMDR training and is a member of the EMDR Association UK.
After completing her training, Louisa provided bereavement counselling through Marie Curie Hospice in Solihull and worked with a social enterprise organisation in the West Midlands, delivering therapeutic services for an underserved local community and training for colleagues. She now divides her time between Working Minds UK and her private practice.
Louisa is an Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, a Professional Accredited Registrant of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society, a member of EMDR Association UK, and a Student Member of the British Psychological Society.

RGN, RMN, MSc, PGD, PGC education
Donna Doherty is a dual registered nurse (RGN & RMN) and a has worked as a nursing academic for over 15 years.
She has over 25 years clinical and educational experience which includes roles with a range of nursing and professional disciplines in undergraduate and post graduate practice and education. She has clinical experience working with older adult mental health and Dementia assessment as well as long term older adult care. She has worked in the NHS, private and, voluntary sectors caring for individuals and their families in Practice areas including Dementia Assessment, NHS Continuing Care for Older Adults and, Nursing Home Care for Individuals with Dementia across the UK. She has an interest in Workplace Wellbeing and Resilience.

Barbara has worked as Personal Secretary to Alan Dovey for over 22 years and has excellent organisational skills (she has to working with Alan ). She is also great support to our clients ensuring they feel welcomed and involved in arranging their appointments for consultations.
